Five students who attended the Grimsby & Cleethorpes Enterprise Agency's New Entrepreneur Scholarship Scheme have now started their own businesses. The Scheme, which is funded by The Learning & Skills Council and sponsored by The National Federation of Enterprise Agencies and The Prince's Trust provides 90 hours of essential business training so necessary to successfully set up in business and ensure long term sustainability.

The four businesses are:

A Clean Sweep - a domestic cleaning service run by two sisters, Elizabeth Wray and Emma Plant who supply all their own products and materials, provide a first class personal service to customers covering such activities as regular daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly cleaning, one off thorough cleans, spring cleaning as well as ironing, bed making, polishing etc. With over 7 years experience in the domestic cleaning service they hope to expand into commercial cleaning services in the very near future.

The girls said: "without the course we would not have been able to set up our business on a firm basis and achieve the amount of success that we have" A Clean Sweep can be contacted on Grimsby (01472) 586491 or Mobile 07990 826112

Darren Hickman, who had been unemployed for two years before being accepted onto the Scheme has set up his own car and commercial valeting business A.1 Valeting. As well as providing full car valeting to the general public and to the trade - unlike many similar firms - Darren also undertakes the valeting of taxis, commercial vehicles, caravans and boats.

In conjunction with Humberside Airport Darren is hoping to provide a cleaning service for businessmen and holiday makers whose cars left at the airport will be thoroughly cleaned and valeted awaiting their return An experienced valeter, who gained his years of experience with a Rotherham based firm; Darren said he "was delighted to be accepted onto the Scheme which helped me to build on my original idea of starting up my own business. The course proved to be very valuable to me in gaining the necessary business skills and helped build up my own confidence in taking the big step into self-employment so that I can provide a better future for my family"

Darren can be contacted on (01472) 319845 or Mobile 07963 151420

Kelly Wood was lucky to obtain premises within The Oasis Health Club in Orwell Street, Grimsby to set up her hair dressing salon Aurora Kelly provides a complete hair dressing service to both members of the club who can visit her salon after attending the gym or after other activities and also to non- members in a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere Kelly who has gained her experience working in several hairdressing salon since she qualified from college said: "The Entrepreneur Scholarship has helped me enormously in developing my ideas and together with the comprehensive training I have received has given me the confidence and motivation I needed in setting set up my business"

Amanda Brett - Hair by Amanda - has set up a mobile service for customers who prefer to have their hair dressed in the comfort of their own home. This is particularly useful for people who are at work all day and who are unable to access normal salon opening hours Amanda says "this can also be particularly helpful to the elderly, infirm and disabled and mums who have young children - having lived as a single mum myself I know that without the business training I have received I would not have been able to fulfil my ambition" To make an appointment Amanda can be reached on (01472) 690167 or Mobile 07751 703501
